Why’d you want to take The Big Video Course?
As a professional photographer, I've always thought that stepping into video would be a logical next step, but the various aspects of it (especially editing) seemed very overwhelming and always stopped me.
What was your skill level before enrolling?
I know a lot about cameras, but zero about sound and even less about editing or making storyboards.
How were you learning video in the past?
I shot some video and played around with it in iMovie. I love watching well-made videos and even worked at a film festival for five years, so I appreciate the art form of it, but I always get overwhelmed when I try to make something for myself.
I feel like I'm an intelligent person, why can't I just be good at video?! I get so bogged down with the editing process!
If a friend asked you about the course, what would you say?
SIGN UP TODAY YOU WILL BE SO HAPPY THAT YOU DID! It is so well-organized, the resources are incredible, Mary is hilarious and seriously everything you want to know about video, she covers in this course!
What was most valuable about the course?
Most valuable so far has been the breakdown in how Mary creates her videos. The lessons showing behind the scenes and explaining gear are so interesting.
You get to see how Mary storyboards, sets up shots and has trial/error periods. Plus she shares her screen during the editing process. I learned Lightroom by using a book, so these videos will be something I refer back to OFTEN!
What was most challenging?
I need to just start shooting. I'm still in the storyboard phase, and that white piece of blank paper can be overwhelming.
What results did you get from this course?
Having these lessons is like being with the best video cheerleader that is really devoted to seeing me be successful. It is just a different feeling when you're doing it alone.
